Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role:

Our Ngati Porou Oranga - SWiS (Social Worker in Schools) & Attendance Team work with local kura (schools) to promote attendance and support Tamariki, Rangatahi, and their Whanau to reduce and address absenteeism.

We have a permanent part-time 30hour Whanau Oranga Attendance Kaiarahi position available, covering Ruatoria and Te Araroa.

Reporting to our SWiS & TSAS Manager, we are looking for an Attendance Kaiarahi who is passionate about working with our Tamariki, Rangatahi, and Whanau.  We are looking for someone who has the ability to positively influence and support our Whanau, be non-judgemental, and see the potential in our young people.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako - Essential Skills & Experience:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Education or a relevant industry qualification.
  • Have the appropriate qualifications, experience, and competencies required to be able to confidently support and understand the individual, cultural, and identity needs of our Tamariki and Rangatahi.
  • Knowledge of local and national support agencies.
  • Have a calm, nurturing, and patient manner to cope mentally with the demands of the role.
  • Sound working understanding of safeguarding Rangatahi who are high-risk and how to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Behaviour management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to positively influence young people.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fun, physically fit, and able to keep up with our Tamariki and Rangatahi. Have a good sense of humour.
  • A clean, full current NZ driver license.
  • You must meet the requirements of a Police Vetting and Oranga Tamariki NGO checks.
