At Mana Ake Tairawhiti we are dedicated to promoting mental wellbeing and supporting the mental health of children and adolescents in our communities. We value diversity, cultural knowledge, and the importance of holistic approaches in mental health care.

We are seeking a Kaiurungi to deliver mental wellbeing wānanga focused on building resilience, emotional wellbeing, neurodiversity, anxiety, and depression with Tamariki, kura, whānau & communities from Whangarā to Mākarika. The ideal candidate will have a clinical background or working towards this and be committed to delivering culturally relevant support and education in collaboration with each kura & community.

This is a Permanent full-time position, based in Gisborne, with some travel within the region to deliver programs and workshops.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Facilitate wānanga aimed at enhancing mental wellbeing for children and adolescents.
  • Provide guidance and support based on principles of resilience, behaviour management, emotional regulation and understanding neurodiversity.
  • Collaborate with families, schools, and community organizations to promote mental health awareness.
  • Incorporate Māori traditional healing practices into your work and be open to ongoing learning and training.
  • Demonstrates honesty, reliability and credibility.
  • The ability to identify insights from information, think critically, communicate core elements and explore options.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively engage, collaborate and partner with a wide range of stakeholders.

Operating Competencies:

  • Full, clean NZ Driver License.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a range of skills, knowledge, and attitudes that contribute positively to the organisation’s purpose.
  • Able to establish a good rapport with people.
