Te Ara Poutama: Living with Heart Disease

Co-funded by Pūtahi Manawa Centre of Research Excellence and the Heart Foundation and hosted by Manawaora – The Centre for Health, Te Ara Poutama: Living Well with Heart Disease is a community-based Kaupapa Māori research programme dedicated to developing culturally grounded approaches to heart health. In collaboration with Ngāti Porou Oranga, Te Ara Poutama has been co-designing research to tautoko whānau impacted by heart disease, crafting solutions that reflect their lived experiences and aspirations for hauora.

Te Ara Poutama is also piloting the Kura Raumati internship programme to address the under-representation of Māori in heart health professions and science. Māori tauira studying health at a tertiary level have applied for this Kaupapa Māori-informed heart health research summer programme, with NPO hosting tauira on the programme. This initiative not only supports the professional development of Māori tauira but also aligns with TAP’s broader goal of supporting whānau, hapū, iwi, and the wider community in their heart health journey.
