Gout and Related Conditions: Genetics and Environment Programme

In partnership with University of Otago since 2006, our longest ongoing research programme focuses on increasing understandings about what genes and kai (food)have to do with the gout and related metabolic conditions - like diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease. We compare information gifted by participants with and without gout and various related conditions.

We also regularly share these emergent understandings with whanau, doctors, nurses and kaiāwhina to inform management and prevention of such conditions.

The Health Research Council ofNew Zealand has been the major funder, with earlier support from Lottery Health, University of Otago and the Heart Foundation of New Zealand.
