Whānau Care Service is working with Oranga Tamariki to reconnect and reintegrate mokopuna in Oranga Tamariki care and custody, with their Ngāti Porou whānau and hapū. We ensure that the goals and aspirations of mokopuna and their whānau are at the center of our support.
The Whanau Care service principles and practices:
Tika, Pono and Aroha
· Doing the right things, in the right way with integrity.
Mātauranga
· Ngāti Porou matauranga, reo, and tikanga guiding all that we do.
Kaitiakitanga
· Honour the legacy of our tipuna, ensuring whānau, hapū, and iwi ways of caring for our people, environments, and kaupapa, are realised.
Whanaungatanga
· Building and maintaining respectful and strong relationships that support the goals and needs of mokopuna and their whānau.
Whakapapa
· Maintaining our identity as Ngāti Porou and valuing whakapapa connections by affirming.
Whānau Care will offer mokopuna and whānau the following Kaitieki Mokopuna (Caregiver) service options:
· Current Oranga Tamariki caregivers may transfer with mokopuna to our whānau care service.
· New Caregivers will be recruited to provide overnight, short-term, or permanent care.
