The SWiS service bridges the gap between the school, home, and community. We work to ensure enhanced life outcomes, positive education, and safe social and health outcomes for tamariki.
Early intervention enables SWiS to work with tamariki, their whānau, and schools, to help protect vulnerable tamariki and develop plans to improve their safety, wellbeing and educational outcomes. There is an emphasis on ensuring equity and reduction of disparities for tamariki Māori and their whānau.
What we do:
- Provide a tamariki centric and whānau friendly environment
- Awhi tamariki and their whānau through their mamae
- Refer whānau to specialised services outside of SWiS
- Recognise and utilise whānau strengths
- Provide programs that support tamariki and whānau growth.
What we aim to achieve:
- Tamariki attending and engaged in school
- Safe, socialised tamariki that have a strong sense of identity and wellbeing
- Tamariki and whānau that are well connected to their community, whānau, hapū, and iwi
- Fewer tamariki in intensive or statutory pathways
- Resilient tamariki that know how to manage difficult situations and who to go to for help
- Successful transitions from primary to intermediate and intermediate to secondary school
- Positive parenting, strategies, and skills within the whānau we work with
- Appropriate service referrals and specialised support for Tamariki.
